So, size does matter after all
« on: June 12, 2009, 08:42:25 AM »
The age old debate about whether size really matters finally has an answer - size does matter.  When it comes to salary, that is.

A new joint ANU and University of Sydney study has found that tall people get paid more than their vertically-challenged counterparts.

Researchers found a strong link between wages and height - particularly for men - with each additional 10 centimetres of height adding three per cent to hourly wages.  The same link was found for women too, with a two percent increase for every 10 additional centimetres of height.

The study, which surveyed over 20,000 respondents, also found that being overweight has no impact on an individual’s salary.  This flies in the face of earlier studies in the US and Germany which found that fat people have thinner pay packets.

ANU professor Andrew Leigh suggested that the greater proportion of overweight people in today’s workplaces may have impacted upon this result.

So tall thin people and tall fat people get paid better.  Which one do you aspire to be?
